你还记得以前人们对彼此要更友好，更温柔，更礼貌吗?我当然记得，而且感觉现在的世界大部分已经和那个时候渐行渐远。例如，从我二十多年前最初搬到纽约时，就看到了这种差异︰电梯开了，人们匆忙涌向电梯，而不会考虑让里面的人先出来;当别人为他们把着门的时候从来不说谢谢﹔或者请同事递东西的时候从来不说“"请”;当其他驾驶者为他们让道的时候，他们从来不挥下手或点下头以示感谢。
